Asheville Montessori School

Ms. Marcia's Class

Marcia Whiting – Lead Teacher “Hi, I’m Marcia and thrilled to be a part of AMS. I was born and raised in Boston, MA. I graduated from Plymouth State University in NH with a B.S. in Elementary Ed. After graduation, I had the opportunity to live, travel, and teach in Japan for two and a half years. My husband (of 38 years) and I have three sons and a daughter. Twelve years ago I had the opportunity to be Montessori trained at the Center for Montessori Education in NY. I have worked as a head teacher and education director at Montessori Children’s House of Erie in PA. I then worked as a head teacher at Montessori Children’s Community in Sewickley for the past four years. I truly believe in the Montessori philosophy. It sets the foundation to become a life-long lover of learning. I welcome the challenge of bringing children to their full potential in a positive, caring environment.”

Assistant Teachers

Sandy Walker - Hello! I’m Sandy Walker & it’s truly an honor to be part of the AMS community this year. I’ve been a Montessori guide since 1994 & have worked with children for over 35 years. During college, I spent summers as a nanny at a family resort in New Hampshire. The staff was mostly international students here on a work exchange program from the UK & Europe & they convinced me to do the same program so I could visit them in their countries. After graduation, I left my family in Texas & traveled to the UK & worked in London, Edinburgh, France, Portugal, & Greece. From there on, my internal compass was set towards educational travel & my initial appeal to Montessori was the perfect vehicle to combine my passion for children & travel while supporting myself too.

While working as an assistant & co-teacher at a Montessori school in Wilmington, I completed my training for 3-6 year olds with Montessori World Educational Institute. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to work with hundreds of children at several Montessori schools over the years in different places including British Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Texas & Costa Rica. I moved to Asheville last year to enjoy the beautiful mountains with my Weimaraner, Dylan & my rescue kitty, Pasha. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share this year with your children & look forward to many meaningful moments with them!

Jennifer Davey - Hello, my name is Jennifer!  I was born in Hendersonville and raised in Sylva, NC.  I attended UNC Charlotte and graduated (many moons ago) with a major in Biology and a minor in Education.  I married my husband, Brendan, in 1999 at the Balsam Mountain Inn on one amazing crisp autumn day.  We have two delightful children, Paddock and Adale, both recent graduates of Asheville Montessori.

We love doing things as a family, including biking, hiking, camping and just playing around our house.  Gardening, cooking and yoga are my ways to recharge and center myself.

Now that my children are Asheville Montessori graduates, I am excited to continue my involvement in the Asheville Montessori community.  I look forward to meeting you and being a part of your child’s learning and growth.
